Hair Cuts and Teddy Bears: What turning 3 looks like

Last Saturday we celebrated Malia's 3rd birthday. To start off the festivites I took her for her first hair cut. Yes it has taken me 3 years to cut her hair. In my defence I just couldn't bring myself to cut off her baby curls! But a few months ago when I asked her what she wanted for her birthday she said a hair cut so  how could I say no? We took her to Beaners (a local kids salon) and evened everything to a cute bob and bangs. What's left of the baby curls give her ends a nice flip.

After the hair cut we met 10 of her friends and their parents at Build-A-Bear. The kids had a great time creating their own stuffed animals, the party leader was energetic and great with the kids, and I didn't have to worry about treat bags as each kid got a brand new friend to take home. Other than the craziness of West Edmonton Mall during the Christmas gift puchasing season, it was the perfect party for a group of 2-5 year olds.

The party ended at our house where the grandparents and Uncle Erik and Auntie Athena joined us for snacks and cake. Auntie Athena made the very specific cake Malia requested: A pink Care Bear with a rainbow (and nothing else) made from chocolate cake and strawberry icing. Not only did it look amazing but it tastes delicious. I should know, I "tasted it" every day for 5 days after the party ;)

It was a great day celebrating what a special little girl Malia is with friends and family. Mimi brings so much humour and joy to our lives. She is my snuggle bear and yet so incredibly stubborn and independent. These will be fabulous traits as a woman (at least that's what I tell myself when I am counting to 10 several times a day). I'll admit to being a bit forlorn that my baby is no longer a "baby" anymore, but I love how she is at a stage where she tells me everything she is thinking. I know I'll miss that soon enough.

Happy Birthday Mimi! I love you with my whole heart <3
